My project on Spanish Flu of 1918

Image
Since we are living through a pandemic and we were assigned a history documentary project in Media Production, my group thought it would be a good idea to compare the two major pandemics, Covid-19 and the Spanish flu that took place over 100 years ago.     The Spanish flu started while World War one was happening. It was first observed in Europe in 1918, during the fighting. To keep morale high, countries that were in the war would not report on it, the only media that did were Spanish newspapers, hence the name. It really was not from Spain yet the exact orgins are unknown. Symptoms were much more extreme than Covid-19, within hours or days of getting the flu, skin turned blue and lungs started to dill with a fluid that would suffocate you. Like now, at first there were no treatments or vaccines available, yet we developed things much faster. Another difference, young people were usually fine with dresses like these, many young people contracted it and died, many of th...

Top 5 places to hold events (or press conferences)

Image
In light of presidential campaigns hosting events at local small businesses I thought I could help. I am compiling a list of the best places to hold your next global presser!  5 - Men's Wearhouse, Wellington Circle Plaza, Boston  Link to the event space Mens Wearhouse in Boston, MA is a beautiful place to hold your next event. It has breathtaking high ceilings, a beautiful industrial look, and a great location. It even has a whole selection of mid priced suits that work for any occasion. And if you are looking for a more outside event they have an amazing gravel parking lot next to a prison!  4 - First Niagara, Belair Shopping Center, Philadelphia, PA 19115 Link to the event space Niagara Falls is a beautiful place to hold a really important press conference that will be on every TV network. It has it all! A worn down building, an ATM, and is located in an abandoned mall! Don’t be detoured by its 1 star rating, this place is amazing!  3 - L’Avion Wedd...

Twitter

Twitter, a media form. Of all the forms of media, twitter might be my favorite. It's a great community and alot of fun. It is also a great news source, especially for sports. I am going to showcase two of my favorite twitter moments to document why I love this form of media, I might even want to work at twitter one day. If I didn't work for twitter it might be fun to be a social media manager. These will probably be related to the Cubs, I tweet about that a lot, the Cubs even follow me on twitter. So let's get right into this! The time I played every position on the Cubs. pic.twitter.com/GWonn5PkxX — Chicago Cubs (@Cubs) July 20, 2020 When the Cubs tweeted the first lineup of the 2020 season I wanted to be on it, it didn't work. no — Chicago Cubs (@Cubs) July 19, 2020   I was very disappointed. But the next day... let's say things just worked.... pic.twitter.com/GWonn5PkxX — Chicago Cubs (@Cubs) July 20, 2020 We lost that game but it was the f...

Community welcome sign

Image
I took this picture today, about a block from my house. I believe it is a welcoming representation of this community. It is especially relevant in a time like this. The sign covers everything, including, racism, woman’s rights, immigration, Covid-19, and more. Since those the things dividing America today, it is very welcoming. And it’s not just this house, a few other houses had this same sign in the yard. The flag in the background adds to the picture. This should paint a good image of the community (as long If you share those beliefs).
